Retirement Retirement Benefits

HOW IT WORKS

For most people retirement is a major event in their lives and while some people may dread the prospect we believe with proper planning your retirement can be an eagerly anticipated event. The retirement process can be daunting and a fair amount of work is needed to process a retirement claim. You must apply for payment of you retirement benefit by completing the application form before the Fund will proceed with the processing of your claim.

When can you retire?


Anytime between age 50 and 60 for underground members and 53 and 63 for surface members; Anytime if disabled due to accident or illness, if the Trustees are satisfied that you can no longer perform your duties or any other duties in the category of work in which you were employed for.

What do you receive upon retirement?

  1. Your Fund Credit
  2. The Total retirement contributions
  3. Total Voluntary Contributions
  4. Total Transferred Portion
  5. Net investment return.

What are your options upon retirement

  1. You can take your full fund credit as cash.
  2. You can commute up to 1/3rd of your non-vested benefit for a taxable cash lump sum and use the balance 2/3rd to purchase a compulsory annuity. If the total of your non-vested benefit is R247 500 or less , the full amount may be taken as a taxable cash lump sum.

DOCUMENT REQUIRED:

  1. A certified copy of your identity document, birth certificate or passport - displaying your photo and the passport’s expiry date.
  2. Banking details (copy of bank statement stamped by the bank);
  3. Retirement claim form signed by the member and two Employer authorised signatories. The withdrawal form must be stamped by the mine;
  4. A letter stating your intention to transfer the full or part of the retirement benefit containing the institution’s contact details and policy details (if applicable).
  5. An original or copy of an annuity letter, reflecting the annuity policy number (if you wish to transfer the full or part of your benefit to an annuity fund/registered pension/provident fund), or the original signed annuity application form, or the original letter from the broker (if applicable).
  6. A foreign exchange questionnaire (if applicable).
  7. A payslip (if your current income is less than R60 000 per year).
  8. A letter from your employer confirming your retirement.

Funeral Benefit::

  1. Members who retire continue to be covered for the funeral benefit when they die. The amount payable is R50 000. Please insist on your funeral paid up - certificate from your Employer before leaving the service.
  2. Housing Guarantees and Divorce Orders
  3. If you have a Housing Guarantee provided by the Fund, the outstanding value of the guarantee will be settled before any part of the benefit is paid to you. You are liable for the income tax that must be paid as a result of the settlement of the housing guarantee. Thus, if you elect to purchase a pension, the value of the outstanding housing loan will be deducted from your benefit before the balance is transferred.
  4. If there is a Divorce Order against part of your benefit in the Fund, the Fund is obliged to settle the value of the Divorce Order before paying any benefits to you. Thus, if you elect to purchase a pension, the value of the divorce agreement will be deducted from your benefit before the balance is transferred.

Annuity Annuity Benefits

HOW INCOME FOR LIFE WORKS

You can use all your fund credit to buy our income for life.

  1. You "buy" the product with your fund credit and, in return, receive a guaranteed monthly rand amount for the rest of your life.
  2. A large portion of the money is invested which provide the steady guaranteed part of your income for life.
  3. Your guaranteed income for life will rise in line with bonuses declared (usually annually); these are based on the investment returns.

retrenchment Retrenchment Benefits

HOW IT WORKS

Your Fund Credit will be:

  1. The total retirement contributions;
  2. Total Voluntary Contributions;
  3. Total Transferred Portion; and
  4. Net investment return.

Retrenchment

  1. The benefit payable on retrenchment is identical to the benefit payable on dismissal or resignation.
  2. You may elect to take the benefit in cash or transfer the tax-free benefit either to an approved Provident Fund, Retirement Annuity and Preservation Provident Fund.
  3. Transfers to approved Pension Fund and Pension Preservation Fund will attract tax.

Payment options

  1. You may take your full fund credit in cash, just remember that you will pay tax on a portion of the money.

  2. OR

  3. You may transfer your full benefit to an approved provident fund or retirement annuity fund tax free.

  4. OR

  5. You may transfer your benefit to an approved preservation fund, which is subject to the requirements of the revenue authorities.

  6. OR

  7. The Rules of the Fund provides for members to defer their benefits until retirement age on resignation, dismissal and retrenchment.

The following will apply to a deferred benefit:

  1. The minimum amount should be R10 000
  2. No further contributions will be permitted
  3. All benefits (Group life cover, ill health and funeral) ceases
  4. The differed benefits will continue to be credited with net investment returns.

disability Disability Benefits

HOW IT WORKS

If you satisfy the Trustees that:

  1. You are permanently unfit to continue in or resume employment in the category of work you have been employed in the service of the Employer; and
  2. You are permanently unfit to continue in or resume employment in any other category of work for which the Chamber minimum annual basic wages are greater than or equal to those for the category of work in which you have been so employed, you shall be entitled to your Fund Credit.


Your Fund Credit will be:

  2. Total Voluntary Contributions;
  3. Total Transferred Portion; and
  4. Net investment return.

death Death Benefits

THE BENEFIT WILL BE AS FOLLOW

  1. 3 x basic annual salary
  2. The total retirement contributions;
  3. Total Voluntary Contributions;
  4. Total Transferred Portion; and
  5. Net investment return.

The above benefit will be taxed as per the Income Tax Act of South Africa. A funeral benefit is payable from the Fund in the event of death a Member, Spouse or children.

DOCUMENTS REQUIRED

  1. Death claim form signed by two Employer authorised signatories and stamped by the mine;
  2. Deceased nomination of beneficiaries form;
  3. Original certified copy of death certificate;
  4. Original certified copy of death certificate from country of origin if not South African, eg Lesotho,Mozambique, Botswana, etc.
  5. Translation of the certified death certificate into English should also be obtained;
  6. Original certified copy of deceased‘s identity document or passport;
  7. Original beneficiaries’ bank statements with bank stamps;
  8. Original certified copy of marriage certificate and original certified copy of identity document or certified copy of passport of the spouse (For marriages registered at Home Affairs after the death of a member,
  9. A customary union letter signed by three of the deceased’s family members before their Chief or Magistrate together with their certified identity documents copies or passport copies should be submitted);
  10. A letter signed by three relatives of the deceased in front of their Chief or Magistrate with certified copies of their identity documents or certified passports copies confirming that the member was never married and had no children;
  11. Beneficiaries’ fully completed affidavit of dependency forms (MW16) signed and stamped by the Commissioner of Oaths listing all minor children must be submitted;
  12. Major children must complete their own affidavit of dependency, signed and stamped by the Commissioner of Oaths;
  13. All beneficiaries, including major children must submit an affidavit signed and stamped by the Commissioner of Oaths stating clearly the extent of their dependency on the deceased;
  14. Original certified copies of minor children (below 20 years)’s birth certificates, identity documents or passports must be submitted;
  15. Original certified copies of identity documents or passports of major children must be submitted;
  16. Guardian’s original bank statement with bank stamp must be submitted;
  17. All major children still at school must submit a letter from school or the institution confirming that they are still at school;

For children not using the deceased surname:

  • A letter or affidavit from the deceased family confirming that the children belonged to the deceased must be submitted.
  • The letter or affidavit must be signed by three of the family members in front of their Chief or Magistrate together with certified copies of their identity documents or passports (Alternatives are maintenance orders or unabridged birth certificates showing names of both parents;
  • Proof of guardianship from a social worker’s background report for minors not residing with their biological parents must be submitted. The report must be stamped by the social worker;

    The benefit payable is as follows:
    Members R40 000
    Spouse (regardless of number) R40 000
    Children (aged 14 to 21) R40 000
    Children (aged 21 to 25 proof of study will be required) R40 000
    Children (aged 6 to 13) R25 000
    Children (aged 1 to 5) R15 000
    Children younger than 1 year R15 000

    If you die, your next of kin or spouse must report your death to your employer’s Human Resources office. When reporting your death your spouse or next of kin should bring along a certified copy of your death certificate and your identity document. This will ensure that theProcess of paying the funeral benefit is done as soon as possible and that the death benefit claim from the Fund is initiated. There are many documents that need to be submitted, the sooner this is done the sooner your benefits can be paid.

  • funeral Funeral Benefits

    HOW IT WORKS

    A funeral benefit is payable from the fund in the event of the death of a member, spouse or a child. The benefit payable is as follows.


    Members R40 000
    Spouse (regardless of number) R40 000
    Children aged 14 to 25 (children aged 21 to 25 proof of study
    will be required)
    R40 000
    Children (aged 6 to 13) R25 000
    Children (aged 1 to 5) R15 000
    Children younger than 1 year R15 000

    The funeral benefit of R40 000 is also payable when a member who exited the Fund through retirement dies.

    FAMILY ASSISTANCE BENEFIT:

    The Fund offers a Family Assistance Benefit (FAB) through its Group Risk Benefit service provider, Momentum, which can be accessed 24hours/365 days a year that provides invaluable support to members during traumatic life events.

    THE FAB PROVIDES HELP IN MANY WAYS::

    On Bereavement:

    1. Repatriation – to ensure the deceased is safely returned home for burial;
    2. Funeral assistance - to help with funeral arrangements for the deceased;
    3. Legal advice – in the form of legal assistance provided by admitted attorneys;
    4. Bereavement counselling - in the form of face-to-face counselling services for support and advice;

    On Trauma such as rape, assault, etc:

    1. Trauma assault and HIV counselling
    2. Emergency Medical Services.

    All these services are available to the member and immediate family including spouse, children, parents and parents-in-law.
